__Who we are
The Silver Oaks group is owned and operated by the Wilson Family, who now
own and operate eight Hotel/Motor Inns in New Zealand.
The company started in 1972 with the purchase of the Marina Motel, a five
unit property, in Hamilton. By 1974 this property was expanded into 16 units
and sold for a substantial profit enabling the purchase of the Manurewa
Motel. The Manurewa Motel, at the time was regarded as one of the premier
properties in South Auckland. By 1980 the principal owners Dennis and Dawn
Wilson expanded the property from 10 rooms to 16 rooms and had purchased the
Takanini Motel, a similar sized property.
By 1983 both the Manurewa and Takanini Motel were leased, and a short break
was taken from the Motel industry.
The next project, in 1987, was to build the Silver Point Motor Inn at
Auckland Airport, which is now a 35 room motel and conference centre. The
successful trading of this property, during adverse conditions following the
sharemarket crash, enabled the purchase of the Oakwood Manor in 1992. This
property required substantial restructuring and marketing which proved very
successful. In 1994 the opportunity to purchase the Allenby Park was taken,
two more conference rooms were added and a refurbishment program was
undertaken. Three months following this acquisition both the Manurewa and
Takanini Motel were sold which enabled the purchase of the Ambassador Motor
Inn in Hamilton.

The following year the Sharella Motor Inn was purchased, this property has
now been completely refurbished and is well known as an accommodation and
conference venue in Wellington.
As the chain developed a strategic decision was made to purchase a property
in Rotorua, to create a referral chain within the North Island. After a
number of months of negotiation, the Regal Geyserland Hotel was purchased in
1999. This property is a well known tourist and conference hotel with views
of the World Famous Whakarewarewa Thermal reserve right from the window.
With the strength of the Rotorua Market a decision was made to purchase
both the Heritage Resort Motor Inn and the Gwendoline Court Motel along with
the surrounding development land, in 2001. As a result of this, the
Silveroaks Group is now a significant accommodation provider in Rotorua.
Today the family continue to search for future opportunities and aim to
further expand the chain into the South Island.
